Spinning or Group Cycling Classes
Spinning classes, also referred to as Group Cycle, here at the Naples Fitness Center can be beneficial to the mind & body in several different ways.

Burn Fat and Increase Muscle Strength
During a typical 45 to 60 minute spinning class, the instructor will guide each participant through a series of moves that are designed to increase their heart rate, burn fat and increase muscle strength. After a five to ten minute warm-up, the instructor will begin challenging the class by climbing hills, pedaling on flat roads and other moves designed to improve fitness and burn calories. Sometimes students will be sitting. Sometimes they'll be pedaling while standing up also referred as, out of the saddle.

Add Variety to Your Fitness Routine
Spin classes are a great way to add some variety to your fitness routine. If you are always on the treadmill running, or just using an elliptical machine, or only lifting weights, you are working the same muscles day in and day out. Your body gets used to those machines or types of workouts and becomes less and less effective over time. By adding a spinning class or two during your week can not only keep you from getting bored; but will add that needed variety to your routine and trick your body into working harder by exerting more energy from a larger variety of muscle groups. This will keep your body constantly guessing by changing your routine, which in turn keeps your metabolism soaring!

Jump Start your Metabolism
While cycling classes will keep you from hitting plateaus, more importantly, they will help to jumpstart your metabolism!! Not only will you burn calories during the class, but you will continue to burn calories throughout the day! Depending on how hard you exercise, students can burn between 450 and 600 calories in one class and then burn 20% more calories during the rest of the day than they would normally!

Why Spinning Classes?
Why take an indoor cycling class versus riding outside on your own? We advocate both. Outdoor cycling is a great form of exercise and can be very enjoyable. But with unpredictable weather conditions and the constant stopping and starting at intersections, outdoor cycling can be trying to say the least. Indoor cycling in a group setting never gets rained out and there is never any traffic to contend with. Plus the group setting will help motivate you to work harder than you would if you were by yourself. If you are fatigued and usually working out alone, you are more likely to cut your workout short or talk yourself out of working out all together. However, when you are part of a group, it promotes our competitive nature and helps motivate us to work harder to achieve fitness levels we didn’t think we get to on our own.

All Fitness Levels can Participate
Spinning is a group class that all fitness levels can participate in. If you are a beginner, you’ll benefit because you are able to work at your own fitness level, without holding back others in the class. If you are a novice or even an advanced cycler, you can crank up your workout to fit your individual fitness level. No matter how easy or difficult the class, you can always make it your own. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, everybody is welcome and it is certainly challenging at all levels.

Spinning is here to stay
Think that spinning is just a fad? Think again. Spinning was originally introduced in the late 80’s and has stood the test of time. While other forms of group exercise have come and gone or are in a constant state of re invention, group cycling has stayed the course and with the advent of the modern bike, is now better than ever. It has proven its effectiveness by giving people the optimal results they are looking for. It is easy to do without requiring a lot of coordination. No fancy dance steps to memorize, and no fancy outfits to wear. It is fun, competitive, and always a great time!!

Spinning is Low Impact
Spinning classes can be ideal for people who cannot partake in high-impact type aerobic classes. Spinning is lower impact and better on the knees and hips compared to other forms of cardio exercise. Doctors often recommend upright cycling to patients who are rehabbing from knee surgery to improve range of motion and to strengthen the surrounding muscles and tendons.
